Outdoor Education Courses
The purpose of these courses is to develop visionary outdoor educational leaders who are prepared to be agents of change in the world, whether in a wilderness context or a context where these transferable skills are implemented. Courses completed in this prefix could lead to a national Certificate in Outdoor Education.
Registration
Registration for Outdoor Education classes occurs on Tuesday Sept 24th from 3:00-6:00pm in the Outdoor Center
Fall 2019 Courses
1 unit. Thurs 3:00-4:20pm. Field Weekend: 11/8-11/10
Skills to transition from indoor climbing facilities to outdoor rock climbing venues. Emphasis will be placed on evaluating risk, along with constructing and assessing safe anchoring systems using natural and bolted anchors.
Course Fee: $150.00
1 unit. Field Intensive 11/22-11/27
Explore climbing safety systems as they apply to anchor building, self-rescue, impact forces, and belaying. Emphasis will be placed on constructing and evaluating safe traditional anchor systems as well as learning techniques for self-rescue in the single pitch outdoor rock climbing environment.
Course fee: $250.00
1 unit. Wed. 6:30-8:30 pm Field Weekend 11/8-11/10
Instructs paddlers in whitewater kayaking techniques. Emphasizes basic skills needed for paddling class II, II whitewater rivers including paddle strokes, boat control, and essential whitewater safety information.
